Thankful 365 – March 2018

#thankful 365

Ice Cream Party

This another one of my projects for 2018. In case you are wondering why in the world I am posting at the end of the month I will give you a quick explanation. Gratitude has been something that I have struggled with. I want to cultivate a thankful heart. In order to focus on the positive I will be posting at the end of each month one positive thought for every day (or nearly every day). My goal is to completely transform my natural inclination to spot the negatives first and replace that with the ability to see the good in every day. Bring on the goodness!

Philippians 4:8

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Spring Cleaning On The Farm

Well, it seems that spring break and motherhood have conspired to draw me away from my little blog. We have been spring cleaning with fervor here at Henneke farm. The mud, as you can imagine, is epic this time of year.

I began scrubbing the back deck only to find that it was like scooping sand from the Kalahari. There was just so.much.mud. I began with a paint scraper, yes, a paint scraper. Then I was able to sweep up clumps and dust. Next, I advanced to hot water and cleaning solution scrubbed on with a broom. Finally, my girls were given the task of bucket brigade with hot water for rinsing away soap and mud. Then came the water hose to complete the task.

Two hours later we could stand back and admire our work. We were proud of our accomplishment and the deck really looked wonderful. If it hadn’t cooled off that evening we could have had dinner alfresco.

Spring time is not without a bit of humor….today it rained. So my deck gets a second washing!

Spring Is Around The Corner

God’s handiwork this morning

I know it may be a bit wintry in this picture but it was a lovely cool still morning. Just as if the seeds in the ground had started listening for their cue to rise. Instead of dew we had snow but the feeling of spring was there.

What a view! My neighbors probably thought I was crazy to stand in my driveway (in flip flops) just to catch the sunrise finishing it’s morning trek into the heavens. But you should have seen it! Billowing clouds full and glistening with the paleness of early sunshine streaming out onto the lightest dusting of pure white snow. I wish I had a better camera to do it justice. I am blessed to wake up to God’s handiwork every morning!

Have a beautiful day!

Salad in a Jar Ingredients {THM style}

Love this idea and a lot of my fellow THMers have been doing this. I am going to give it a try today and save myself some prep time. This week will be very busy so its a perfect time!

Water on the Floor

Salad in a Jar Ingredients {THM style} *with a FREE printable chart*

How many of you have seen pins on Pinterest about “salads in a jar”? I have seen quite a few, and we are loving them in our home! They make such quick, easy, filling, and healthy lunches…perfect for a lunch on-the-go or a fast lunch for a busy homeschooling mama. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating new salads.

Ideally, you can make several “salads in a jar” at the beginning of the week and just grab one out of the refrigerator every day. It sure saves a lot of time cutting, slicing, and dividing everything at once instead of doing it each day! For my salads, I put the dressing in the bottom of the jar. My husband likes to add his dressing right before he eats:) Add the more wet ingredients at the bottom so they don’t get everything else slimy. Layer your ingredients, add the lettuce (or…

Adventures in Eating

Adventures in Eating

I am back on the THM (Trim Healthy Mama) wagon and very happy about it!  I have been needing to take a good long look at my eating habits for a while. I am a pig if you must know.  I have been blessed with a high metabolism but as I *ahem* mature I have noticed that it is  less speedy.  Also, sugar and gluten aren’t friendly to me- ever. I love them but they do not love me back and so I’m ending our relationship before anything drastic happens.

One of my morning go-tos is bulletproof coffee.  If you haven’t tried it you should at least once.  It’s creamy and frothy and YUM! It does require using a blender which can be an extra step that some people don’t have time for in the morning but it can hold it’s own against any fancy $5 drink and it’s GOOD for you!

This morning as I was putting the finishing touches on my coffee the blender seemed a bit off… not quite right…very bouncy and loud…

Hmmm… upon further investigation I could see nothing noticeable about the contents of my blender so I poured out my big cup of love and took a big ol’ swig.  Strange…it’s a bit chewy??? I quickly spit out a solid piece of something.  It was a chunk of black rubber.  I know I live on a farm and things can get misplaced very easily when you have 4 outbuildings each with their own belongings, not to mention 5 different people moving those items about… but really! Trying to save my cup of perfect deliciousness I grabbed a fine mesh strainer to strain out all the rubber bits.  It almost worked.  If I only looked at the beautiful frothy top I could not see the black flecks below!  But my better judgement took over and I realized that it’s probably not a good idea to drink inedible things.  Well, I guess I could always make another cup- but this time I’m writing down exact quantities so I can replicate my little cup of heaven!

Basic Bulletproof Coffee:

1 cup of freshly brewed coffee

1/2 tsp. coconut oil

1/2 tsp. butter

stevia to taste

sprinkle of salt

1 tsp. collagen

flavoring of your choice

blend on low for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fully emulsified and frothy

Drink up!
